Character: Deity Name: Internet Pantheon: New God Current Alias: Joshua Apparent Age: 23 Occupation: Internet is a very wealthy New God. He has no job, per say. Rather, he spends his time taunting and terrorizing the old gods, always taking any opportunity to make them look like the old fools he sees them as. Personality: Internet, Joshua to his friends, is a cocky prick, in general. He is the most widely used New God and is gaining popularity every passing second among his following. With this solid backing, he has turned his efforts towards making life as uncomfortable as possible for the older gods, to further proliferate the word “Myth” into descriptions of these gods and goddesses, and seeding disbelief or even mockery into the minds of those who might use his extensive resources to find facts of ancient deities. He is a prankster. He hates being called Josh or Joshy. He trends on the evil side of the fence with Viruses and Malware, even Spam. On the other hand, he has been known to do a lot of good for people, including the old gods. But in general, his power has gotten to his head and he is a spoiled boy who fears disconnection. History: Born in America with the telegraph system and growing rapidly to maturity with global networking, Internet has changed the way mortals live both their personal lives and with commerce in general. Today, Internet is in nearly every home, transmitted on every mobile device, with very few parts of the world untouched by his influence. He is in personal computers, laptops, video games, and powers the World Wide Web. It was a rapid rise to the top of the food chain, so to speak, with everyone clamoring for a piece of him. Each new ISP added, each new MAC address hosted, gave him power and soon, Internet did not have to worry about being a forgotten concept that mortals tossed aside for a greater beast. He was it. He could only improve. In fact, studies revealed that in this year, 2011, 22 percent of the Earth’s population will surf the Internet regularly. That’s 1.1 billion regular worshipers. And that is only those accessing the Internet from their personal computers. The staggering numbers of users/worshipers using the internet on their mobile phone versus PC are 10/1. There is plenty of reason for Joshua, The Internet, to have and to flaunt all the confidence in the world, because the confidence of the world rides on his continued existence.
